With one of the greatest and most distinctive voices in contemporary music, the late Ali Woodson enjoyed a distinguished career as the lead singer of the legendary Temptations (1984–86, then 1988-96) performing worldwide and giving the Motown stalwarts one of their biggest hits with 1984’s “Treat Her Like A Lady” as well as 1986’s US R&B hit single, “Lady Soul.”

A multifaceted performer, Ali played several instruments including keyboards, bass, and drums; he wrote his own music, lyrics, and arrangements, and produced recordings. His incredible vocals and unbelievable range led him to work with many of the other greats in the industry. He performed with longtime friend Queen of Soul’, Aretha Franklin as well as Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Patti Austin, “The Godfather of Soul” James Brown, Lou Rawls, Bobby Womack and many others.

This 2018 SoulMusic Records/Platinum Garage Recordings release features new mixes of recordings by Ali, twelve of which (including “Dreaming Wide Awake,” a wonderful duet with the legendary Freda Payne) were originally produced by award-winning music man Preston Glass who considers Ali to be one of the greatest vocalists he’s ever worked with.

• SoulMusic Records is very proud to present a sumptuous 33-track 2-CD set of classic recordings by the legendary Brenda Holloway drawn from Motown’s vaults and recorded between 1963-66.

• SPELLBOUND has been compiled and produced by longtime Motown expert Paul Nixon, responsible for the successful “Cellarful Of Motown” series, who has carefully selected the tracks on this superb compilation by one of Motown’s most soulful singers. Included here are nine previously unreleased tracks along with rare cuts that have only been available digitally.

• California-born Brenda Holloway became the first West Coast-based artist signed to Motown in 1963; within one year, she achieved US national success with the now-timeless classic, “Every Little Bit Hurts”; Brenda’s five further charted singles included “When I’m Gone,” “Just Look What You’ve Done” and “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” (a song she co-wrote, later recorded by pop/rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears).

• Although Motown only issued one LP, Brenda recorded prolifically for the label, with literally dozens of tracks remaining in the vast Motown vaults until producer Nixon began including tracks on various reissues. SPELLBOUND features (2) tracks cut in 1963, (23) in 1964 and (8) in 1966; producers included Marc Gordon & Hal Davis, Frank Wilson, Johnny Bristol & Harvey Fuqua, Ivy Jo Hunter, Brian Holland & Lamont Dozier, Norman Whitfield, Mickey Stevenson and William Weatherspoon with material written by, among others, Sylvia Moy, Billy Page, Jimmy Webb, Janie Bradford and the Lewis Sisters.

• Notes by renowned UK Motown historian and writer Sharon Davis include 2017 quotes from Brenda along with an essay by producer Nixon; and stellar remastering by Nick Robbins.

  • SoulMusic Records is very proud to present its latest reissue of classic recordings from the globally ever-popular Motown catalogue, four stellar albums (with two additional bonus tracks) by the super-talented Thelma Houston, a mainstay artist at Motown from 1971-1979, worthy additions to previous SMR reissues of Thelma’s Motown work, including expanded editions of ‘The MoWest Album,” “Any Way You Like It” and two albums with Jerry Butler, “Thelma & Jerry/Two To One.”
  • THE DEVIL IN ME (1977), READY TO ROLL (1978) and RIDE TO THE RAINBOW (1979) focus on her work in the wake of the international success of her timeless cover of “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” which catapulted Thelma to worldwide mainstream recognition.

Included on the (37) musically-satisfying tracks featured here are the charted hits, “I’m Here Again” and “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning” (Reissue producer’s note: the original READY TO ROLL LP included an edited version of this track; time restrictions did not allow its inclusion on this reissue).

• SoulMusic Records is very proud to present the first worldwide reissue of two classic Motown albums (as expanded editions with bonus tracks) by renowned singer/songwriter and producer, the late Willie Hutch as a 2-CD set, remastered by Donald Cleveland.

• HAVIN’ A HOUSE PARTY was Willie’s seventh album for Motown; the L.A.-born, Texas-raised music man – who had enjoyed success as a songwriter for The 5th Dimension and Al Wilson among others and who had also recorded for RCA – signed with the label in 1973 after writing The Jackson 5’s hit, “I’ll Be There” and Willie’s initial success came with Motown soundtracks “The Mack” and “Foxy Brown” with charted singles such as “Brother’s Gonna Work It Out” and “Slick”; his biggest US R&B hit was 1975’s “Love Power.”

• Released in 1977, Willie’s self-produced HAVIN’ A HOUSE PARTY LP (a US R&B Top 30 best seller) boasted two charted singles (“We Gonna Party Tonight” and “What You Gonna Do After The Party”), after which he signed with Whitfield Records (hitmaker Norman Whitfield’s label).

• Willie returned to Motown in 1982 with the infectious “In And Out,” a US R&B and dance hit and his sole British chart entry and popular club track in the UK. Three years later, Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr. brought Willie on board for the soundtrack of“The Last Dragon” and two tracks from there (“Inside You” with The Temptations and “The Glow”) formed the basis for 1985’s MAKING A GAME OUT OF LOVE, his final Motown LP. This expanded edition includes “The Girl (Can’t Help It),” the rare ‘B’ side of “In And Out” and three 12” mixes.

• Notes by renowned US writer Kevin Goins include quotes from Iris Gordy, various musicians and others associated with Willie.
