It also reached number 5 on Amazon’s General New Releases Chart), Dayton Grey’s January 2022 release “Love Is On The Line” is sure to appeal to the powerhouse vocalist’s loyal fan base…and beyond. Both tracks were produced, arranged and written by Alex Lloyd.
Dayton has been a regular feature on the UK soul scene for several years: his voice has been compared to the likes of Luther Vandross and Billy Ocean and his impressive tributes to those particular artists have kept Dayton on the road for many years. Recent appearances include BBC TV shows such as ‘All Together Now’ and ‘I Can See Your Voice’ and his live ‘online concerts’ kept audiences entertained throughout 2020 and 2021.
“Love Is On The Line” was written, arranged and produced by Devon-based Alex Lloyd, a dedicated soul music aficionado who has written arrangements for such iconic soul artists as the Chairmen of the Board and The Drifters, and as a saxophone player, some of Alex’s credits include work with British jazz composer Mike Westbrook and members of the legendary Motown studio band the Funk Brothers.
Citing the legendary Thom Bell as a prime musical influence, Alex has studied with the Motown arranger (and former Marvin Gaye musical director) McKinley Jackson and with longstanding O’Jays’ musical director Dennis ‘Doc’ Williams. He has written and produced for several top vocalists including former Drifters lead singer Steve V. King (‘Nothing Could Stop Me Loving You’) and former UB40 and Drifters member Michael Williams (‘Do We Have to Go’).
