• SoulMusic Records is very proud to present “I Try: The Anthology, 1978-1993,” a 2-CD set of charted singles, key album cuts and guest appearances from the inimitable singer/songwriter Angela Bofill, spanning the most prominent period of her recoding career.

• A native New Yorker, Angela became the second artist signed to GRP Records, formed by producers Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen in 1978: her debut LP, Angie heralded the arrival of one of the mainstay ‘voices’ in the burgeoning ‘quiet storm’ radio format in the US thanks for tracks like “Under The Moon And Over The Sky” and “This Time I’ll Be Sweeter,” the first of a dozen charted singles included on this first-of-its-kind anthology of Angela’s much-loved work.

• Angela’s sophomore album, Angel Of The Night proved even more successful thanks to the title track and the now-timeless classic “I Try,” both staples of Angela’s live repertoire. Switching to Arista Records in 1981, Angela began working with label chief Clive Davis, resulting in another five best-selling albums from which came her biggest charted hits, including “Too Tough” and “Tonight I Give In.”

• This sumptuous 2-CD lovingly compiled by SoulMusic Records’ founder David Nathan (who began conducting interviews with Angela after the release of her debut LP) includes a number of rare tracks such as “All The Reasons Why,” “Love & Marriage,” “Love Light” and “Rhythm Of Your Mind,” all of which were first released between 2002-2007. In addition, the anthology features five stellar guest appearances with artists such as Narada Michael Walden (who produced three of Angie’s Arista albums), Johnny Mathis, Carl Anderson, Stanley Clarke, Marian Meadows and Kirk Whalum; and tracks from Angela’s one-off 1993 LP for Jive Records including the title track, I Wanna Love Somebody.

• The superb music on this anthology (with project assistance from Toney Redmond, Angela’s former manager) is augmented by stellar liner notes from renowned US writer, A. Scott Galloway who has included extensive quotes from Angela herself along with comments by producers, songwriters and musicians including Walden, Mic Murphy & David Frank, Preston Glass, Kirk Whalum, Buddy Williams, Eve Nelson, Derek Bramble and others.

SoulMusic Records is very proud to present “Stir It Up – The Anthology, 1965-1979” a musically scintillating 2-CD set by soul/pop and reggae icon, Johnny Nash Covering close to fifteen years of recordings, this first-of-its-kind 2-CD sets includes all of Johnny’s US and UK Epic singles, prime album cuts, recordings from the mid-to-late ‘60s and several tracks from two albums (1977’s “What A Wonderful World” and 1979’s “Let’s Go Dancing” which have never been reissued on CD until now.

• As renowned US writer Justin Kantor documents in his stellar notes, the Houston-born singer/songwriter, musician, arranger and producer began his career as a teenage recording artist a Top 30 pop hit in 1957 and signing with major labels before forming his own labels JoDA and later JAD Records with then-manager Danny Sims, Johnny became a chart fixture starting with “Let’s Move And Groove (Together)” in 1965, enjoying success in the US and UK after a promotional visit to Jamaica resulted in his first recordings there (notably “Hold Me Tight” and “Cupid”).

• Justifiably considered a pioneer by fusing soul and reggae and bringing the much-loved Jamaican art form to mainstream US audiences, Johnny’s association with Epic Records started with his version of “Stir It Up,” written by a then-fledgling Bob Marley (who Johnny introduced to manager Sims and with whom he worked in London in the early ‘70s) also represented here with four further compositions including “Reggae On Broadway” and “Guava Jelly”; the bulk of the original material contained on this highly satisfying 2-CD set was produced and written by (R&B Foundation Pioneer Awardee) Nash himself.

• This anthology, with great remastering by Nick Robbins, includes the classic “I Can See Clearly Now,” the UK No. 1 single “Tears On My Pillow” (1975) and the final 1979 productions by the late Van McCoy with a rare dancefloor mix of “Closer,” in addition to Johnny’s reggae-flavoured covers of timeless tunes such as “(What A) Wonderful World,” Bobby Darin’s “Dream Lover” and The Everly Brothers’ “All I Have To Do Is Dream” and soul-infused cuts like “You Better Stop (Messing Around)” and “The Edge Of Love.”

• Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Jonathan’s foray into music professionally began in his pre-teens when he performed in local choirs, cabaret venues and carnivals. Signed to Bullet Records as a teenager, Jonathan achieved success in South Africa with two albums (one with another teen star, Little Ronnie). After a stint with jazz-oriented band Pacific Express (during which Jonathan’s skills as a guitarist became clearly evident), at the suggestion of Jive Records’ founder Clive Caulder, Jonathan moved to London in the mid-’80, achieving his first taste of solo international success in 1986 with “Baby Please Don’t Take It,” a US Adult Contemporary chartmaker.

• “Sarah Sarah: The Anthology” contains all of Jonathan’s US and UK charted singles including the much-loved title track, Jonathan’s classic cover duet with Jive labelmate Ruby Turner of The Staple Singers’ “If You’re Ready (Come Go With Me),” 1987’s “Lies” (a global pop/R&B hit, featured here in an extended version), 1988’s “Take Good Care Of Me,” an extended version of the Top 10 US R&B hit, “There’s One Born Every Minute (I’m A Sucker For You)” and 1989’s “More Than Friends.”

• Born Michael Jones in Harlem with a name change to Kashif (Saleem) during his teen years, the gifted young musician joined the famed funk/soul band B.T. Express in 1976, recording and performing with the group followed by a stint on the road with soulstress Stephanie Mills during which time he emerged as a successful songwriter thanks to hits with Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King and Howard Johnson among others.

• Signed to Arista Records by renowned label chief Clive Davis, Kashif began his run of sixteen charted hits with the US Top 5 R&B single, “I Just Gotta Have You (Lover Turn Me On).” Davis teamed Kashif with then-new signing Whitney Houston and he produced her first hit,“You Give Good Love.” Kashif scored his biggest R&B hit in 1987, a scorching duet with Meli’sa Morgan, covering Mother’s Finest’s, “Love Changes” and continuing his chart success as a duettist with the legendary Dionne Warwick the same year via “Reservations For Two.” Kenny G. and Doug E. To 60s and 70s Soul aficionados, Maxayn Lewis should need little introduction. As a
tremendous session vocalist, her name appears on the credits of innumerable records
from the 1960s onwards.

In the late 1960s, she was recruited to join The Ikettes for an Ike and Tina Turner world
tour.

In the early 1970s, she and her husband formed Maxayn – a funk/rock/soul quartet with
psychedelic leanings. The three albums Maxayn made for Capricorn Records remain
popular to this day, but have never been issued on CD or download – until now!

Following the dissolution of Maxayn, Lewis continued to be a constantly-in-demand
studio and touring backing vocalist, working with Brenda Russell, Madonna, Dionne
Warwick, Celine Dion, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and many others.

For the first time, Reloaded presents the three albums which Maxayn recorded for
Capricorn Records – Maxayn, Mindful and Bail Out For Fun! The package includes
faithful reproductions of the original artwork for each album, with a substantial booklet
boasting a 5,000-word sleeve-note and lots of rare photographs.

Maxayn’s eponymous debut boasted two impressive funk-rock Rolling Stones covers
(‘Gimme Shelter’, ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’) alongside some superb band
originals.

Mindful was perhaps funkier than its predecessor, including a reworking of Curtis
Mayfield’s ‘Check Out Your Mind’ (which Maxayn performed on Soul Train).

The band’s third and final album continued to blend infectious funk workouts with soul
ballads to great effect.
