Caroline International, in association with SoulMusic Records, is proud to announce the reissue of WE GOT TO GET OUR THING TOGETHER and NO WAY BACK, two classic ‘70s albums by legendary group The Dells, the first album available for the first time on CD worldwide and the second only available as a limited edition Japanese reissue.

The Dells have long been revered in the world of soul music with a career that spanned an incredible five decades (1952-2012).  Originally formed in Harvey, Illinois just miles outside of Chicago, the quintet (who only ever underwent one personnel change) came to US national prominence in 1956 with “Oh What A Nite”; however it was their tenure with Chess Records from the mid-‘60s to the late ‘70s that earned the group the title ‘the mighty, mighty Dells’ as a result of their dynamic performances and a legacy of hit singles (such as “Stay In My Corner,” a revamp of “Oh What A Night” and in the early ‘70s, “Give Your Baby A Standing Ovation” and “The Love We Had (Stays On My Mind),” one of the key cuts on the 1971 LP “Freedom Means,” reissued by Caroline International in association with SoulMusic Records in 2015).

The 1975 album WE GOT TO GET OUR THING TOGETHER (briefly issued on Cadet Records) became the group’s debut set for Mercury Records, with the majority of production by Detroit-based hitmaker Don Davis (known for his work with Johnnie Taylor and The Dramatics in particular) including the standout “Love Is Missing From Our Lives,” recorded with The Dramatics. The follow up 1976 set, NO WAY BACK included tracks used for the blaxploitation film of the same name (starring Fred Williamson), recorded primarily with another Detroit producer/songwriter Mike Terry.

Both albums have been long treasured by loyal and steadfast fans of the group; this reissue, produced by David Nathan of SoulMusic Records, is  remastered from original tapes by Donald Cleveland and features notes by renowned UK writer Charles Waring and includes quotes from group member Chuck Barksdale specifically for this reissue.

Reynolds, Larry “Squirrel” Demps and Lenny Mayes – signed with ABC Records: their first three albums for the label spawned R&B hits such as “Be My Girl” and a cover of Billy Paul’s “Me & Mrs. Jones”; for SHAKE IT WELL, the group continued working with producer Don Davis, reuniting with Tony Hester for two tracks, “Spaced Out Over You” and “Music Is Forever.”

For the SHAKE IT WELL sessions, producer Davis hired top session musicians including, Dennis Coffey, Ray Parker Jr., James Jamerson Sr. and Reginald Burke and the LP reached #10 on the R&B charts and #60 on the Top 200 Albums chart.

This reissue of SHAKE IT WELL marks its CD debut worldwide and was produced by David Nathan of SoulMusic.com, mastered by James Bragg of Chase The Ace, with artwork by Roger Williams and informative liner notes by renowned writer Matt Bauer featuring 2015 interviews with group members L.J. Reynolds and Willie Ford.
