 Two of the jazz/funk greatest fusionists team up in the tail end of the disco-era, resulting in two fine albums of the era (from 1978 and 1980 respectively), brought together on CD for the first time.
The CD opens with the percolating Heat Of The Beat, with its infectious rhythm and melody sets the tone to what to expect and has pleasant musical surprises throughout track by track journey. The AC friendly Give It To Me is a straight ahead musical doppledanger for Alan O’Day’s 70s pop smash Undercover Angel, meanwhile the Xylophone friendly Lovers Should Always Be Together is perfect for summery weather and warm evenings.
To capture the spirit of the disco era , Take Your Funky Mind To The Disco, You Make Me Feel Like (Rockin With You), Tell Me What You Want, Million Dollar Baby capture the era of white suits and the glitter ball perfectly.
The pure jazz feel of Weekend Lover sounds like the musical signpost for Matt Bianco and the early Everything But The Girl. Have Your Way is however is all about the soul and not so the jazz/funk.
In short I suggest for serious fans of these two talents, but those wanting to learn more about jazz/funk, this is a good musical teacher.
