The original ‘Dream Girl’ Jennifer Holliday made one album for Arista Records in 1991 and worked with some top notch producers and songwriters.
Arista founder Clive Davis was the executive producer for I’M IN YOUR SIDE – a Top 30 R&B charted best-seller, handpicking material that allowed the soulful singer to showcase her versatility and artistry.
Super hitmakers Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson produced and wrote the track, “It’s In There” for Jennifer; Michael J. Powell, best known for his work with Anita Baker, produced three tracks including the Top 30 R&B hit, “Love Stories,” written by soul music favourite Gary Taylor; and Barry Eastmond (whose credits include production work with Freddie Jackson, Melba Moore, Tom Jones, Dionne Warwick, Will Downing and Billy Ocean among others) cut four tracks or the album including Jennifer’s powerful version of Angela Bofill’s “I’m On Your Side” which became a Top 10 R&B hit single for Jennifer.
Other key cuts on I’M ON YOUR SIDE include Diane Warren’s “I Fall Apart” and “Raise The Roof,” which became popular among gay club goers in the early ‘90s
