Not quite sure who came up with the phrase ‘blue-eyed soul’ – likely some journo (a Brit term for ‘journalist’) who was hard-pressed to describe the music of folks like Dusty Springfield, Timi Yuro, Lulu and even, dare we say it, Tom Jones (think “It’s Not Unusual,” a song that made it to the U.S. R&B Top 30 in 1965 long before most folks even knew Tom was a white Welshman!).
