| Soul and blues singer, an influence on many other artists including Aretha Franklin. Born Dec 23, 1935, died Aug 7, 1984. During the 1970s she made a temporary move into disco material and scored an international hit with "What A Difference A Day Made", an updating of the 1930s jazz standard.
